Got the pinstripes on the cruiser this week. I think it really pulls it all together.
Which brings me to my tough decision.............
Which van to sell.
I love them both, but for different reasons.
This one is a quiet, comfortable, efficient, stock cruiser that I have zero interest in modding or abusing, which I find strange and lovely at the same time. I am perfectly happy with it just as it is.
The Rally Van is kinda raw, stiff, fun to abuse off road, and used to be fun to abuse on the road, which I also enjoy in a way. Then again, I won’t be happy with it until I swap a 3.8 back into it, and I don’t really want to spend the time/money to do so.

I’d keep the one pictured here. It looks really nice!

Is it a question of insurance costs or not enough space?

Let the market decide. List them both for sale and see which one sells.

Sell the rally van. It’s tougher to find a buyer for somethi

like this, but when you do, the will appreciate it hugely. Plus, if you don’t swap it with the new engine, you won’t be happy with it anyway, so why keep it...

I feel I will end up regretting doing that no matter which sells.

Question of the wife says we don’t need 4 vehicles and she wants to keep the car ( which honestly is the one we should sell, it only has another year maybe two and the underside will be toast ).
Which means it’s between this and my other one.

That’s kinda the direction I’m leaning. Plus this little 92 here only has 74k miles, needs nothing, and EVERYTHING works!

That sounds like a tough decision... I’d suggest that you sell the modded one... I don’t think the market would appreciate the stock one you have as much as it is worth or as much as you do

I suppose my definition of need is different than hers. Even with four vehicles, I would be concerned about most/all of my vehicles being somewhat old and perhaps unreliable. We’ve all seen other Oppos have problems with one car, put another old car into daily service, then start having problems with it. In my mind, it’s a question of likelihood of failure given the age of the fleet.

The way I take care of them its likely any of the old ones will outlast the new one, so the reliability factor isn’t really an issue IMO . The Voyager is pretty much all new at this point, fresh suspension/brakes/fuel system/driveline. The Caravan has 74k original miles and has a fresh rear end and all new brakes. The Acclaim is all fresh as well, but is showing some rust in spots underneath which I have no plans of fixing.
I drive each of them every week, so it’s not like anything just sits accumulating issues either.

It sounds like you and your wife aren't on the same page about selling a car. Because right now, it's coming off as "my wife is forcing me to sell something that I love" which is a pretty good way for you to end up with some resentment towards her.

Have you explained that the car is actually in worse shape?

Damn that thing is giving me some serious nostalgia right now. The van we had growing up looked exactly like that rims and pin striping included, the only difference is it was green.

I can introduce your wife to my mother, who would’ve been THRILLED to have just four cars (and all running!!!) in the driveway. I believe there are at least 20 at my dad’s house.

I know it’s important to compromise, but it sounds like any reasonable person would understand that the car should go. As you likely know rust is not often something you can fight, and when you can it’s rarely worth it. And getting rid of her car means she can get something ‘nicer’? All that aside sell the vehicle that needs a different motor for you to like it. Would you try selling the rally van on forums and stuff or would the mods not really turn off normal people?

Those pinstripes really complete the look on it. Nice work.

I kinda dubbed the new van as hers, but realistically it doesn’t matter, she rarely needs a vehicle and has zero issue driving the vans.
I would list it numerous places, I don’t think the mods would turn people off, nothing is crazy or far outside stock, and it makes it more useful overall.

She knows very well we have less than 2 years of realistic life in it, we’ve talked about it numerous times. Last time we talked we decided that the next “major” repair it’s done, I like it a lot, but it’s not worth sticking anymore money into it.

Wouldn’t be the first time.......
“Remember the Eclipse” comes up frequently when she starts talking about needing to sell something.

Well, as you already know, the car is the most logical one to get rid of. As for the vans, that’s a tough call. It probably makes more sense to sell the RallyVan. However, in my personal opinion, the market won’t pay nearly what you were asking for it when you posted it for sale a while back. Although I totally understand why you would want that much for it ... I just don’t see anybody actually paying that.
The stock van will certainly sell eas ier, but I doubt you’ll get much for it, despite its outstanding condition.
I dunno man. None of your three old vehicles are worth a lot of money. The car is definitely the one to off logically. I know, I’m repeating myself, but I just don’t know what else to say.

Given what I’ve seen them selling for lately, I figure about $3k for either van, although I’d have better luck getting it for this one since it’s stock and lower mileage. These 2nd gens have been bringing $3-8k around here in good shape.
The car on the other hand is maybe worth $1k MAX, more like $500 being realistic.
Regardless, I know the car is the one that should go, but she won’t go for it. I’m leaning on the Rally van as it will need the “most” to get it back to what I want it, so I may as well just let it go.

I can’t help with which one to sell, but the stripes do look very good!
